Green Building- How it works !

In today's world we are facing so many issues regarding environment . Because of the Forest cutting pollution level continuously increasing everywhere. Today everyone forgetting how to maintain natural environment and how to save it. Day by day greenery is reducing and trees are cutting down , due to this air is getting polluted. As per WORLD METEOROLOGICAL ORGANIZATION temperature of the earth is increasing by 2 degree Celsius  every year.  Until now we destroyed the environment in a way we want. An important way to save environment is Green building.

Concept of Green Building :

Green building are buildings or homes that are more energy efficient , produce less waste and  are healthier to be inside. Green building uses environmental friendly material which reduce transportation requirements and restores habitat .
Hence it reduces environmental impact on the building or home and maintain a static environment inside a building .
Green buildings are sustainable building. eg. Sustainable means to meet the need of present without compromising the ability of the future generation .
Reducing building impact on human health and environment through ,
  • Better sitting
  • Construction
  • Operation
  • Maintenance and removal.

Green building doesn't mean that :

Buildings that are totally green, produce zero emissions and totally environmental friendly.

Principles of Green Building :

There are three pillars of Green Building

  • People's : It is the social responsibility of every people to make better living condition.
  • Planet : we have to do a construction of a building in such a manner that it will have a less impact on the environment .
  • Profit (Economy pillar) : we have to think how we can reduce the cost for construction of building .

Material used for the construction :

Material used for the construction of Green Building includes sustainable and renewable material .
Following are the materials commonly used :
  •  Engineered wood : It is made of wood fibre , wood dust and soft wood .
  • Natural Fibres : Natural Fibres are Cotton, Bamboo, wool .
  • Bamboo : Bamboo just takes 5 to 7 years to grow completely. It is used to create framework supporting walls and flooring.
  • Cork : cork is a natural material made from the bark of the tree.
  • Steel : Steel is a highly durable green material which is recyclable . It is uses as a structure member of roofing material .
  • Natural clay : Natural clay is a natural resource which is available is the abundance. It can be used as plastering material.
  • Non VOC paints : This material does not emit and volatile organic compounds which are harmful .
  • Cellulose : Cellulose is made up of recycled paper waste and it is used as an insulating material .

Rating Systems of Green Buildings :

  • Green building rating systems are performance credit systems that provides 'Green' certifications and ratings to the building.
  • They allocate points to specific 'Green' certifications.
  • For example, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has the following allocations:
  1.     Sustainable Architecture and design                      5
  2.     Site selection and planning                                    14
  3.     Water conservation                                                18
  4.     Energy efficiency                                                   28
  5.     Building material and resources                            16
  6.     Indoor environmental quality                                12
  7.     Innovation and development                                 7
                                                  Total points                       100
